On the Wagner-Whitin Lot-Sizing Polyhedron

چکیده
We study a family of unbounded polyhedra arising in the study of uncapacitated lot-sizing problems with Wagner-Whitin costs. With n the number of periods, we completely characterize the bounded faces of maximal dimension, and derive an O(n) algorithm to express any point within the polyhedron as a convex combination of extreme points and extreme rays. We also study adjacency on the polyhedra, and give a simple O(n) test for adjacency. Finally we observe that if we optimize over these polyhedra, the face of optimal solutions can be found in O(n).

An Improved WAGNER-WHITIN Algorithm
We present an improved implementation of the Wagner-Whitin algorithm for economic lot-sizing problems based on the planning-horizon theorem and the Economic- Part-Period concept. The proposed method of this paper reduces the burden of the computations significantly in two different cases. We first assume there is no backlogging and inventory holding and set-up costs are fixed. The second model ...
متن کاملLot Sizing with Inventory Bounds and Fixed Costs: Polyhedral Study and Computation
We investigate the polyhedral structure of the lot-sizing problem with inventory bounds. We consider two models, one with linear cost on inventory, the other with linear and fixed costs on inventory. For both models, we identify facet-defining inequalities that make use of the inventory bounds explicitly and give exact separation algorithms. We also describe a linear programming formulation of ...
متن کاملOn the discrete lot-sizing and scheduling problem with Wagner-Whitin costs
We consider the single-item discrete lot-sizing and scheduling problem. We present a partial linear description of the convex hull of feasible solutions that solves this problem in the presence of Wagner-Whitin costs.
متن کاملRobust Wagner–Whitin algorithm with uncertain costs
In real-world applications, costs for products are not deterministic: neither static nor dynamic. They actually tend to be non-stationary and cross-correlated. To overcome this drawback, there have been some efforts by researchers to extend the Wagner–Whitin algorithm to consider stochastic costs. However, they assume that the information of probability density function of random costs exists. ...
متن کاملSensitivity Analysis of the Economic Lot-Sizing Problem
In this paper we study sensitivity analysis of the uncapacitated single level economic lot-sizing problem, which was introduced by Wagner and Whitin about thirty years ago. In particular we are concerned with the computation of the maximal ranges in which the numerical problem parameters may vary individually, such that a solution already obtained remains optimal. Only recently it was discovere...
